In our day there is much written and more said about the second coming of Jesus Christ, perhaps than in other centuries before. The Jews are still looking for the Messiah to come the first time, if they have not accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord of their life. Some have been so certain that Jesus was coming at a certain time in a certain place that they have sold their possessions and moved to that locale only to find their prediction wrong. Actually, the Bible tells us that no man will know the exact time of His coming, but that we can see signs of his soon coming.
Some of the signs given in the Bible for His coming are the restoration of Israel as a nation. This was done in 1948. Another sign given by the Bible is that every person on earth would hear the witness of Christ before the end comes. This was given by Jesus in the 24th Chapter of Matthew. In the day of modern communication, much of the world is being reached with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet even in our community where churches preach, and teach, and witness -- there are those who have not been reached in such a meaningful way that they can turn their lives wholly over to Christ.
I do not think that Jesus meant for anyone to fear His coming, and those who know Him in a personal way know -- that there is no reason whatever to fear His coming. If He were to come today, we would be with Him in a glorious everlasting life. Those who have any fear of His coming would only be those who have not been able to make peace with Him in their heart in their present framework of life. Jesus does not come to hurt, but to help. Jesus does not come to bind; He comes to deliver. Jesus does not come to make us afraid, He comes to give peace and joy and love. This is what Jesus would give for all who can call on him today. He has life for you.
He does say in Revelation 22:7-12, "Behold, I come quickly; blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down in worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be."
Whatever the time or place: or meaning that the second coming of Christ has for you -- He needs to come to your heart the first time at your invitation. He needs to come and make his dwelling place in your heart because you want him to. We can't say for sure about the second coming of Christ, but we can say that He will come to you when you ask Him to. He will come and make his abode in your heart and life. If you invite Him in -and become a part of his living bride on earth, the church, you will be ready to go with Him, when He, the bridegroom comes. Don't be afraid, just be ready!
